History of St. Caillin’s N.S:
Originally, there were four schools in the parish of Fenagh (Drumany, Fenagh, Glostermin, and Cornagun). All four of these schools were two teacher schools and could hold sixty pupils at the most. In 1965, all four schools amalgamated to St. Caillin’s N.S., The Commons, Fenagh, located right beside Fenagh Abbey.
The school consisted of two classrooms. The original building comprised of the rooms at the front of the school, extending from Mrs. Bloxham’s classroom to Ms. Flood’s classroom. During the 1980s, an extension was added, creating additional classrooms from Mrs. Scollan’s room to Mrs. Redican’s room and in 2010, a further classroom extension was constructed at the rear of the school, which is the present classroom of Mr. Gordon’s 5th and 6th class.
Master Wrynn was the first principal of St. Caillins N.S. Anna Reynolds and Mrs Wrynn also taught in the school at this time. Following on from him, Mr. Anselm Reynolds became principal in 1976 until he retired along with class teacher Clare McGarry in 1998. Sheila Cooney, who was a teacher in the school at the time, took over as principal. Mary Flynn joined the teaching staff in 1999. In 2000, Geraldine Mollaghan became the first SNA in the school and remained in the school until 2017.
In 2001, the school became a three-teacher school and Orla Redican was the new teacher appointed. Sheila Cooney then retired in 2002 and Mr. Joe Reynolds became the principal. In 2004, the school became a four-teacher school resulting in Lynda Bloxham joining the staff. In 2005, Edel Scollan was appointed as Learning support teacher. As numbers continued to increase, St. Caillins N.S. developed into a five-teacher school in 2006. Mary Quinn was appointed class teacher and was replaced by Orla Duignan in 2007 who remained on the teaching staff until 2015 when numbers dropped and the school was reduced to four teachers. Mr Joe Reynolds retired in December 2018 and Orla Redican became principal then. Bernie Mc Namee then joined the teaching staff. In September 2020, Ronan Gordon joined the staff. Bernadette Mc Loughlin was appointed SNA.
in 2023 followed by Janette Mc Manus in 2024. The school remained a four teacher until 2025, when it increased to five teachers. Mairead Flood was appointed the fifth mainstream class teacher.
